Upcycling Project: From Banner to Bag

Sustainable merch made from existing brand assets

Background

Over the years, I designed many roll-up banners for conferences and festivals. After each event, more banners ended up in storage, either because they were created for one-time use or because the content was no longer up to date. I didn’t want to simply throw them away, especially since the material is high quality and built to last.

Sustainability and long-lasting design matter to me, so I started looking for a better solution.

After researching different ways to repurpose the old banners, I decided to turn them into “new” merch: upcycled bags.

The best part is that the material was already printed in the company’s signature corporate blue, so the results stay naturally on-brand. Even better, every bag is one of a kind, because each cut captures a different part of the original banner design. Today, we give these upcycled bags away as conference merch, turning old event materials into something people can actually use and keep.

A small project with a big reminder: Good design is built to last.
