Turning backend upgrades into a visual story of control and discovery.

Project Background

To support the launch of Plunet 10, I led the key visual direction for the release and translated it into a short promo video for LinkedIn and Instagram (15s max). The goal was to introduce what’s new in a clear, engaging way, even though this version focuses mainly on backend upgrades rather than visible UI changes.

Challenges

Most improvements in Plunet 10 happen behind the scenes. For many daily users, they won’t “see” those changes in their daily workflow. At the same time, this release doesn’t introduce major UX changes, so the story couldn’t rely on “new UI” moments or dramatic before-and-after visuals. The only user-facing change, beta features, also needed careful framing. It’s not just “new stuff”, it’s an invitation for users to participate in the future of the product.

The challenge was to turn a highly technical release into something that feels clear, valuable, and visually compelling, without overselling what the update is.

Design Approach

Since most of Plunet 10’s improvements happen behind the scenes, I knew the video couldn’t rely on flashy UI changes to create excitement. Instead, I built the story around something users instantly understand: control and discovery. I used a cursor as the hero element throughout the video and paired it with Plunet’s universe visual theme to guide viewers through each update, turning “invisible upgrades” into something visual and intuitive.

Concept exploration: I explored different ways to translate product controls into a visual metaphor that could work within a 15-second, loopable format for social media.

Technology Upgrades:

The cursor moves through the system to reveal what’s new behind the scenes. Plunet 10 upgrades the backend to the latest Java and Tomcat versions.

Consistent User Experience:

The cursor moves through familiar patterns to signal continuity. No major UX changes, so users can upgrade with confidence and keep working as usual.

Beta Features Toggle:

The cursor clicks to toggle beta features on and off. It highlights user control, exploration, and the chance to shape what’s next.

You point, you click, and unlock a new world :)
